Home learning is off by default, and students never need an email address for the classroom. Turn it on only when you want students to look at something before they arrive.
- Open the course, then Pre-course work.
- Tick Let students log in from home before the course, choose how many days before the first day it opens, write the message they’ll see, and press Save.
- Add tasks: a title, instructions, the images to look at and any notes, graphs or PDFs. Tick Pre-course on each task, and on the Images tab tick Pre-course on the images it uses.
- On the Students tab, add an email address for each student (click edit in the email column).
- On the day the window opens, each student with an address is emailed their username, a password and the sign-in link, branded with your centre’s name. Or press Email logins now.
The email carries a new password (Clearshot DR can’t re-send the old one), so a card printed before it went no longer works for that student. Print classroom cards after the emails have gone, or press New password on the day.
What students can do from home
Before the course, a home login reaches only the pre-course tasks and the images marked pre-course. They can’t upload. From the first day of the course, normal classroom rules apply, including the network lock if you use it.
Seeing who has done it
The Activity tab shows, for each student, when they last signed in, how many sign-ins were before the course, which tasks they opened and how many images they opened.
