Clearshot DR

Image quality checks you can show an auditor

Clearshot DR measures image quality the way ISO 17636-2 asks for digital detectors, looks up the requirement for your exposure, and cites the table and row it used. It supports the interpreter. It never replaces them.

Normalised SNR

Draw a box in an even area of the parent metal or weld. Clearshot measures the mean and noise and normalises with your detector's basic spatial resolution (SRb), giving SNRN. It compares this with the minimum in ISO 17636-2:2022 Table 3 (steel, copper and nickel alloys) or Table 4 (aluminium and titanium) for your source, energy, thickness and testing class.

Extract of the minimum SNRN values Clearshot uses (Table 3, steel)
SourceClass AClass B
X-ray U ≤ 50 kV100150
X-ray 50 kV < U ≤ 150 kV70120
X-ray 150 kV < U ≤ 250 kV70100
X-ray 250 kV < U ≤ 1 000 kV70100

Higher energies and gamma sources have thickness bands; Clearshot holds every row of both tables, the HAZ measurement factor and the clause 6.9 exception for gamma sources. Other agreed values, such as the 7.3.1 exception, go in as a manual minimum with the reason recorded.

Duplex wire IQI

Draw a line along the duplex IQI. Clearshot plots the profile and applies the 20 % dip rule of ISO 19232-5:2018: the first wire pair whose dip falls below 20 % is unresolved, and the last pair above it gives your result and the image unsharpness. It then looks up the required pair for your technique, class and thickness in ISO 17636-2:2022 Annex B.

Duplex IQI profile

First unresolved
D10

100 µm

The demo above is a synthetic phantom: pair D9 resolved, D10 not, so SRb = 100 µm. Requirement D9 from ISO 17636-2:2022 Table B.13, 5 < w ≤ 10 mm.

Single-wire and step-hole IQIs

The required wire or step-hole value from Annex B Tables B.1 to B.12 is shown for single-wall and double-wall techniques, with the IQI on the source or detector side. You confirm the visible value; Clearshot checks it against the requirement and records it with the assessment.

Wall thickness

For pipe and vessel work, a profile across the wall in a tangential exposure gives wall thickness from the outer and inner edges, found at the gradient extremes in the style of EN 16407-1, with an uncertainty from the pixel size and edge sharpness. A thickness calibration on known steps turns the whole image into a thickness and wall-loss map.

Acceptance is yours

The indication rule check uses the acceptance limits you enter from the code your client specifies, such as an ISO 10675 level or ASME Section VIII. We don't reproduce acceptance standards. The result is advisory: the qualified interpreter decides and signs, and Clearshot records that decision.

Standards are copyright of ISO, CEN and BSI. Clearshot uses the published numeric requirements so it can check them; you still need your own copy of the standards you work to. See all features.
