Clearshot DR

Works with the DR system you already have

Clearshot DR opens DICONDE and DICOM files from any panel maker, compressed or not, at their full bit depth, plus TIFF exports. Pictures open too, clearly marked as pictures. Nothing to install and no converter.

What opens

Every upload is checked on the server before it is kept, and stored byte for byte with its SHA-256 fingerprint. How each format opens:

File formats and how Clearshot DR opens them
FormatOpens as
DICOM / DICONDE, uncompressedLittle or big endian, 8 to 16-bit. The usual "save as DICONDE" from panel software.Original, full quality
DICOM / DICONDE, DeflateZip-compressed dataset. Lossless.Original, full quality
JPEG LosslessProcess 14 and SV1. A common compressed archive format. Lossless.Original, full quality
JPEG-LS losslessLossless.Original, full quality
JPEG 2000 losslessReversible wavelet. Lossless.Original, full quality
RLERun-length. Lossless.Original, full quality
TIFF, 8 or 16-bit greyscaleUncompressed, LZW, Deflate or PackBits. Pixel size read from the file when it is there.Original, full quality
JPEG-LS near-losslessSmall, bounded changes to pixel values. Shown with an amber "lossy compressed original" badge.Opens, flagged lossy
JPEG 2000 lossyIrreversible wavelet. Flagged on the image.Opens, flagged lossy
JPEG Baseline (8-bit) in DICONDELossy and 8-bit. Opens with the amber badge; fine detail may already have been changed by the panel software.Opens, flagged lossy
JPEG, PNG, GIF or BMP picturesA "save as picture" export, not the original radiograph: 8-bit, usually already windowed, no pixel size. Opens with a red "picture only" badge, sizes in pixels, and no ISO 17636-2 checks.Opens as picture only
JPEG Extended (12-bit) in DICONDEThe message names the format. Export uncompressed or JPEG Lossless instead. Not supported yet
HTJ2KHigh-throughput JPEG 2000. The message names the format. Not supported yet

Original, full quality: decoded pixel for pixel, measured in millimetres from the pixel spacing in the file. Flagged lossy: the panel software already compressed it with loss, so an amber badge stays on the image, the report and any export. Picture only: a red badge, sizes in pixels, no image-quality pass or fail; the AI assistant is told it is a picture.

By system

Panel makers all write DICONDE, the NDT version of DICOM. What changes is the compression they pick, and only some of them publish it. This is what we know, and what to expect in Clearshot:

  • Carestream

    INDUSTREX

    What it saves

DICONDE. Their published conformance statement lists uncompressed, JPEG Lossless, JPEG Baseline / Extended and JPEG 2000.

    In Clearshot

Yes. Used on real job files. 12-bit JPEG Extended is the one option to avoid.

  • Waygate Technologies (Baker Hughes)

Rhythm RT / Review / Archive, Flash!

    What it saves

DICONDE. The compression used on archive export is not published.

    In Clearshot

Standard DICONDE exports, compressed or not.

  • Dürr NDT

    D-Tect X, ScanX View

    What it saves

    DICONDE is the native format.

    In Clearshot

    Standard DICONDE exports.

  • Teledyne ICM

    Go-Scan, Sherlock NDT

    What it saves

    DICONDE save option.

    In Clearshot

    Standard DICONDE exports.

  • Vidisco

    BlazeX, VIDI, RayzorX (Xbit, VEO)

    What it saves

DICONDE. VEO can also export JPEG and GIF pictures.

    In Clearshot

DICONDE as originals; JPEG / GIF exports as picture only.

  • Fujifilm

    DynamIx (CR)

    What it saves

    DICONDE.

    In Clearshot

    Standard DICONDE exports.

  • Scanna

    ScanView NDT

    What it saves

    DICONDE.

    In Clearshot

    Standard DICONDE exports.

  • Novo DR

    Novoscan

    What it saves

    DICONDE.

    In Clearshot

    Standard DICONDE exports.

  • Other viewers

    e.g. BAM ISee!, X-Vizor

    What it saves

    16-bit TIFF and DICONDE.

    In Clearshot

    Both.

“Standard DICONDE exports” means a file in one of the formats above. Only Carestream exports have been used on real jobs so far; the rest is from each maker's published information and our tests on reference files in every format. Product names are trademarks of their owners. Clearshot DR is not affiliated with or endorsed by them.

Export for the best result

  • Choose DICONDE or DICOM when your software offers a format. It carries the pixel size, detector and exposure details that a picture loses.
  • Choose uncompressed or a lossless compression (JPEG Lossless, JPEG-LS lossless, JPEG 2000 lossless, RLE). Avoid lossy JPEG options for originals.
  • Avoid “save as JPEG / GIF / PNG” for anything you will measure or report. Those are screenshots of the image, already windowed to 8 bits.
  • If your system only exports TIFF, pick 16-bit greyscale. Clearshot reads the pixel size from the file when it is there.

Menus differ between systems and versions, so check your panel software's export or archive settings, or ask the supplier for its DICOM conformance statement.

Not on the list?

Send us a sample export from your system, ideally an image of a test piece rather than a client job, and we'll check it opens and add it here.

Or start a trial and upload your own file: it will tell you straight away how it opens. See all features.
