These are under Enhance in the Adjust panel. They run instantly on the graphics card and work together; a preset is often the best starting point.
| Control | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Edge enhance + Edge radius | Unsharp masking: boosts edges around the size set by the radius. Key e toggles it. | Crisper edges on cracks, lack of fusion and wire IQIs. Small radius for fine detail, larger for broad features. |
| Sharpen | Fine sharpening of the smallest detail. | A final crispness touch. Too much amplifies noise. |
| Local contrast, area and limit | Raises contrast within each area of the image (adaptive histogram equalisation). Area sets the patch size; the limit stops noise being blown up. | Images with both thick and thin areas, where one window cannot show everything. |
| Background flatten + Flatten radius | Removes slow brightness changes across the image. | Uneven exposure, heel effect or a curved part that darkens towards the edges. |
| Noise reduction | Smooths grain while trying to keep edges. | Grainy, low-dose images. Use sparingly on fine detail. |
| Relief (emboss) + light angle | A raised, lit-from-one-side look. | Rounded indications and surface-like features. Change the angle to light from another side. |
Double-click a slider to zero it. The exact settings in use are recorded when you save an assessment, as ISO 17636-2 asks for processing to be documented.
